Speedometer not working
I have a 92 Accord LX with an automatic transmission and the speedometer has stopped working. The cruise control still works. Occasionally it comes back to life, but for the most part it does not work. The odometer also does not work but will start to work when the speedo starts working. I am guessing that since the cruise still works that the speed snesor is not the problem? If it is the speedometer can it be fixed?
Thanks, Jeff

Honda86, you should put your year/model in your signature so we know what kind of car you have.
You likely have a different problem. When the check engine light comes on, the engine computer has detected a problem and stores a code. You likely have a bad vehicle speed sensor (VSS) or the wiring, but you should diagnose first.
If your car is an 86 from your username, then you can short a service connector under the glove box with a piece of wire or a thin paperclip. You can also download an 86 shop manual from the Online Manuals thread in the DIY section. It will have detailed information on how to troubleshoot the problem.

Honda86, your check engine light came on, so you should find out what code was stored in the engine computer.
The tegger.com referenced in the sticky threads has the procedure to get you CEL.
See: http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/faq_ii.html#retrieve
Click on "This PDF Document". The procedure for the 90 accord is on page 15. The diagrams referenced in the procedure are on page 18.
All you have to do is pull back the pass. carpet and count the flashes by the ECU when the key is turned on. Post the code(s) on here.
