Default squeak when turning steering wheel

My 99 EX has a slight squeak when turning the steering wheel. Does it if sitting still or moving down the road. I consider myself a halfway decent weekend mechanic, but have never done alot of suspension work. Ball Joints maybe? It's coming from the left front wheel area. Thanks for replies.

Lift and support the front of the car with the wheels off the ground. Reach in through the window & turn the steering wheel - does it make the squeak?

Make sure the car is supported safely. Have someone turn the steering wheel while you get down & check out the suspension. By putting your hand on components, you might be able to feel which one is the source of the squeak.
- balljoint at upper control arm?
- balljoint at lower control arm?
- balljoint at end of steering tie-rod?

It's the lower control arm ball joint.

Get that replaced, because it's under tension when the car is on it's wheels. That means the weight of the car is pulling it apart rather than pushing it together.

Fortunately, you can get that ball joint by itself without replacing the entire lower control arm.

I had this issue before and it was my lower ball joint. I recommend the OEM ball joint. They are similar in price to the aftermarkets.
