Stalling while turning left
I have a 1987 LXI with FI. The engine stalls after taking a hard left turn (like an on or off Ramp). The strange thing is that if I keep the tank over Half full it never stalls. But after the fuel level gets below 1/2 tank the emptier it gets the more frequent the stalling becomes. Sometimes I can pump the Acellerator pedal and it will come back. After I shut off the ignition switch it will always restart and usually run fine until I make another left turn. I really think that this is a fuel problem because it seems dependent on the fuel level in the tank. Is it possible that the fuel pump stops pumping but will then start pumping again after the switch is cycled.

i had a problem exactly like that with a 91 oldsmobile. what was happening was all the gas would go to one side of the tank during a fast turn, and starve the fuel pump. Just keep the gas tank at least 1/2 full and you should be good to go.

For both of you, it should not be like that. It may be that the inlet tube for the fuel pump (in the gas tank) fell off or has a leak. It's supposed to suck fuel from the bottom of the tank, but if that fuel inlet is off it sucks fuel from a couple inches up from the bottom...

Jim, I have the same problem in my '90 Accord, except that the stalling is not turn related, just stalls alot below 1/2 a tank. How do you go about checking the inlet tube? Is it a DIY project or best left to a professional? Cheap fix or not? Links to pictures/diagrams would be a great help, too. Thanks

The fuel pump is outlined by #62 here (for 1990 LX 4-door).
Easier when the fuel level is low.
You probably have to remove the trim/carpeting in the trunk & open some kind of round access plate to the left of center. I'm not sure but maybe #34 is that access plate.
Then thru that hole you see the tank & the stuff in this picture. Remove the fuel pump & check the inlet tube with it's screen/filter.
It's hard to say whether it's a good DIY job because I don't know what's the biggest job you have ever done.
