Default sudden stutter

my daughters 94 accord vtec suddenly started idleing rough and shaking or jerking upon acceleration. she made it home , and upon inspection theres a box in front drivers side corner behind headlight making a sound like a releif valve or solenoid being activated. her abs light has been on for about a month but no apparent malfunction, could these 2 be a related problem?

Perhaps a vacuum leak at the EGR control solenoid. Check hoses and repair as indicated.

Box might be the abs modulator. ABS modulator may come on and run for a while after engine is started. It makes a buzzing, drumming sound.

Is Check Engine LIght on? If yes, see DIY forum for procedure to extract ECU codes for guidance.

good luck

Car will run very poorly and difficult to start. Check is to align crankshaft to TDC, remove upper timing belt cover and check that camshaft is also aligned to TDC (mark at horizontal aligning w/ backside timing cover). This is highly unlikely IMO.

Suggest inspecting for something simpler; bad spark plugs, wires, cracked distributor cap/rotor.

If you don't have a shop manual, check DIY forum, Online Manuals post/s for a download.

good luck
