Default Suspension Questions

With 114k miles, my 02 EX V6 is sure to be in need of new shocks/struts. Nothing feels "wrong", but I can tell it's not as taught as a new car feels.

I don't want anything fancy; just something similar to stock. Is it necessary to replace the springs as well?

What mileage are the shocks/struts supposed to be replaced?

What can I expect to spend (parts & labor)?

Bonus Question:

I asked this in another post, but does anyone know the difference between shocks and struts, and what does my Accord use?

Thanks...

You don't have to replace the springs if you don't want to although it wouldn't hurt. I'd personally probably go with KYB shocks/struts. That will cost you about $200.00 for all 4 then installation is going to be around $250.00

How hard is it to change the struts yourself?

the only difficult part is compressing the springs... you can either take it into a shop and pay them a few bucks to put the springs on the new shocks or rent or buy a set of spring compressors....

the accord will use struts.. the difference between shocks and strus are struts are mounted with the spring and they act as support for the front wheel drive, shocks are mounted outside of a spring and they are used on Rear wheel drive vehicles.

I believe my 87 accord has struts on all 4 corners. I noticed the rear bounces a bit more than it should when I go over a speed bump. So I'm considering replacing them all. What I didn't notice was any alignment adjustments other than toe-in. Is there any adjustment for caster or camber?

Alien, I'm like you. Don't know much about cars....

A good friend of mine had a '98 Accord and priced around to see how much people were charging. Price ranged from $100 - $300 labor alone.

So, we asked ourselves if we'd be able to do it. All we did was, look up all the info we could, espcially DIY's on changing springs, struts, etc. He bought a spring compressor for $20-$25 can't remember, but something like that. We already had a good set of mechanic tools and did it in a few hours. Just make sure you have step by step instructions and pictures help! A companion or two helps!

You'll appreciate it more when you do it yourself!!

If this was a motorcycle project, I'd have it done. (transplanted engines, etc), but my main problem is not having a garage to do this kind of work in.

I have a large shed where I perform all my motorcyle work, but I really wish I had a garage...
