Default Temp gauge and cooling fan probs

Okay so I have noticed ambient under hood temp if super high. I checked radiator fluid. It's filled and so is the overflow.

I decided to replace thermostat. Turns out previous owner removed it... I put in a new one. That took care of the care taking forever to warm up.

I don't think the cooling fans are coming on. Wen I turn the ac on both fans run. Is that how it's supposed to be? Thought only the condenser fan was supposed to turn on.

The previous owner on obviously had a cooling prob if they left out the thermostat.

Also the gauge always reads 2-3mm under the middle mark. It will jump up if it's hot out and I've been sitting a while.

What's my problem. There are like 3 diff temp sensors right? Coolant temp fan temp and another one.

Both run when the ac is on.

Did you bleed the air out of the system.

Thise two are easy, but without knowing what you are working the rest get a little harder....can you help a brother out?

Next time you see high temps check the cooling fans. Both should run. If neither is running, the problem is likely thermoswitch A is stuck open. You can verify by disconnection and shorting the connector to thermoswitch A (on the thermostat housing behind distributor). If fans come on you need a new thermoswitch A.

good luck

Replaced thermo switch and temp sending sensor. No go.

Since both fans run with ac on the fan motor is not the problem.

Would the radiator fan relay non functioning be the problem? Would the radiator fan run with ac on if it was bad?

I unfortunately don't have access to a voltmeter.

Both fans should turn on when you run the a/c. Since the fans are running, then the fuses, relays, and motors for both fans are fine.

Where was the thermo switch that you replaced?

On the thermostat housing. The plug for the temp sending sensor is pretty corroded and brittle. Would that have anything to do with it?

You can try cleaning the pins inside the plug. If it is not making good contact with that temperature sensor, then the fans still will not work properly.
