Temp gauge not working

Pull the temp sensor single wire connection loose (near distributor) and turn keyswitch to On. Gauge reading should be cold. Turn keyswitch to OFF (important for next step).
Short the single temp sensor wire to ground w/ a jumper wire. Turn keyswitch to On. Gauge panel needle should begin to swing towards full hot. STOP BEFORE needle reaches limit by turning keyswitch to OFF to avoid gauge movement damage.
If the above tests are normal, the temp sensor is bad and new sensor should fit. If above don't work, the problem is faulty gauge panel or wiring fault.
