Angry temp gauge pegged out

I have a 1998 honda accord lx 2.3 and my gauge all of a sudden will peg out when you start the car up. The car is not over heating. I replaced the sender and the cluster and it still does it. I can disconnect the sender wire and the gauge will go down. I have the two clusters and know matter which one i put in it does it. Please help

Strange - if it's OK with the wire disconnected, then it should be a bad sender.

I guess it's possible for your new sender to be bad right out of the box.

Try moving the disconnected wire around, pulling it this way & that. If that wire gets shorted to ground only in a certain position, that might help you located the problem.
