Which temp sensor

Which temp sensor
I suspect a problem with the temp sensor near the thermostat. There is another temp sensor near the upper radiator hose. That one is good. I want to replace the former. What do I ask for at the auto parts store so I get the right temp sensor. Are they the same?

Tek gave you the answer, some might also call it the "cooling fan" switch.
They are different, I think slight physical differences. I know the spec's are different....cooling fan/temp/thermo a-closes around 194*.
Condenser fan/thermo b closes around 217*.

More confused
I get what you guys are saying but Autozone an O'reilly don't. Auto zone calls one a coolant temp switch and another a temp switch. O'reilly just had a coolant temp switch which I bought. It's made by Borg Warner (WT5009). It has a much smaller nut on it but the electrical connector fits fine. I'm nervous to just go ahead and use this one just because it fits if there are different temp rating on the two. Again, I am going for the one near the thermostat.

If you look at the Common DIY Threads stickie, there is an explanation of the 4 coolant sensors.
Just looking at the part, it looks like you have the coolant temperature sensor. You can quickly verify by testing the resistance on the two pins of the sensor. If the resistance is not infinity, then this part will not work.
The OEM part number for temp sensor A is: 37760-P00-003
You can get one from a dealership for about $50. Online sources have them for ~$35, but may include shipping.
As a temporary fix, you can use a paperclip to short the connector to the switch you want to replace. The fans will stay on all the time while the engine is running, but will avoid overheating until you get this figured out.
