TEmperature guage when close to red mark
Hi.
I was driving to atlantic city yesterday and half way there.. my temp needle went close to red mark...
i got scare so i pull over to a rest area and check out the car.
the fan seem to works... the coolant reservor is at max lvl.
i stop the car and let it rest for about an hr..
continues the trip and the temp needle was at middle.
i try not to go over 70... cause i have noticed when i drove around 75 to 80 it went up a little......
P.S. when i was starting the trip... I was going around 70-80.. and the ac was on.....
i turn everything off when i saw the car get so hot.

If your coolant levels are fine and the radiator fans are working then I'd say your thermostat is sticking. It's a cheap part and an easy repair, I'd probably swap that thing out pretty soon, or wait to see if it happens again. If it gets close to that point pull over and wait a bit for it to cool down again then make sure you replace that thermostat, double check your coolant level too.

When it's cold, you should check the coolant level in the actual radiator. There's a couple situations where the overflow reservoir is full but the radiator is low.

no you don't need to drain it, some of it will come out when you pull the radiator hose and thermostat out but you don't need to completely drain and refill the system... Make sure you have about a gallon or two of mixed (water/anti-freeze) coolant on hand, then just bleed the system....

Just from the thermostat I can't imagine losing more than a gallon. There's only about 2 gallons total.
But if it's been awhile, this makes a good excuse to drain & change it completely.

D-10, you should start a new thread.
Check coolant level in radiator when engine is cool. Did you bleed the air out of the system when you refilled the coolant? There is a bleed bolt on the thermostat housing that you unscrew to allow air to escape from the system.

kindly check your timing settings, the way i see it when your running fast your temperature does up this is a typical problem when your timing is off.. have someone check it out using a timing light gun.

this message is for d_10, who worked on your timing belt replacement? i had the same problem with my accord 96 before, eratic idling, high temp... only to find out my indy mech had my timing belt settings all wrong (sh%t ) when he replaced the belt, i brought the car to a honda dealer and and the guys from honda said my cam gear was off by one teeth...
