Default Are those problem normal to a 2007 Honda Accord?

Hi every one, I just bought a 2007 Honda LX from a private seller with a 44,350 mileage on it. I brought it to Firestone this morning and they recommended me a lot of services for my car. I am so shocked because when I drove the car I felt no problem with the car!

Could you please check if the problem below are normal for a 2007 Accord? Also, I listed the price that they would like to charge me for each service. Is the charge reasonable?

1. Fuel System Cleaning $99.99 (EK-10T Fuel System Cleaner plus Fuel System Service Labor)
2. Brake Fluid Exchange $89.99 (Brake Fluid Waste Disposal plus Brake Fluid Exchange plus Brake Fluid Exchange Labor)
3. Brake Maintenance Package $ 49.99 (Rear plus Brake Maintenance Fluid plus Brake Maintenance Labor)
4. Lifetime Alignment Service $159.99 (the car has a symptom that S/S Uneven front tire wear (6-5-6))

I just bought it and I don't know if this is normal to a 2007 Honda Accord. Also, what can I do for my car in the future if I want to keep it in great condition?

Thank you very much!

  1. For the fuel system cleaning, just go to Walmart or an auto parts store and buy a fuel system cleaner like bottle of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner and add it to your fuel tank before you fill up. Right now at some Walmarts, there is a $2 off sticker on the package, so the net cost comes to around $4.60 plus tax.
  2. Did you get any service receipts from the previous owner to tell what service may have been done? Generally, brake fluid should be replaced every 2 - 3 years, as brake fluid absorbs moisture.
  3. The brake maintenance package sounds like more of a gimmick, where they are not doing much for the money.
  4. If the car needs an alignment right now and you plan on keeping the car for awhile, then Firstone's lifetime alignment service is not bad.
If you don't want to spend that much ($159.99) right now, then you may consider not getting the "lifetime" service. Some places, even Honda will sometimes do free alignment checks. The actual costs for alignment service will vary.

I also have a 2007 Accord (SE AT V-6 sedan) with 51 K on it and no, these problems are not necessarily normal for an Accord of that year and mileage. What is normal is to get a long list of "urgent " repairs and services from places like Firestone, Goodyear, Jiffy Lube, Sears, et.al. when you take your vehicle in for an inspection or service. For future reference, always get a pre-purchase used car inspection done before you buy from a private seller. A local independent Honda repair shop near me charges $95.00 for this service and it is money well spent. I would also suggest that you get a second opinion on all these "recommendations" from an independent Honda shop or a reputable Honda dealer service department in your area before you commit to anything with Firestone. In addition, take it to either an indie Honda shop or Honda dealer for all services in the future. That would be the best way to "keep it in great condition"!
