Default throttle - gas pedal sticks on 2000 Accord

The gas pedal on my Accord has been sticking for the past 10 months. It only sticks when it has been setting for a few hours. In the morning when I start it, I back out of the garage at idle without touching the gas pedal. As I start down the road, the pedal is sticky or obstructed for the first two pushes then it is fine all the way towork. Head home in the afternoon and the same thing. Can this be lubricated somehow?

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply deserthonda. It looks a little to complicated for me to do it myself. I have Honda Care till 3/31/07. Two months left. I noticed under Honda Care that the following are covered.
FUEL DELIVERY
- Carburetor
- Throttle Body
- Throttle Cable

If it is just a cleaning and not a replacement, will they cover that?

Thanks again

I am not sure if they will cover that ,, just give them a call and just tell them that your gas pedal sticks ,, if they won't cover it..
get a can of carb cleaner and a rag, remove the tube going to the throttle body, keep the plate open, spray carb cleaner in a rag and clean all around where the plate rides .., also spray carb cleaner on the outer linkage ..
if it still sticks after that than you might have to remove the throttle assembly and clean the inside port as well

Same problem with the sticky gas pedal. Does the throttle body gasket need to be replaced if you take off the throttle body? What about adjusting the cruise control actuator cable and throttle cable? I don't have the L4 service manual. Thanks.

Safe thing is to get a new gasket. Hard to predict whether it will tear when you take it off.

Throttle cable and cruise cable - They both should have just a bit of slack. Cables MUST NOT hold the throttle open even a little.

You could check the cable drum on the throttle body. In a condition where you expect it to stick, don't try the gas pedal. Instead, turn the cable drum on the throttle body. I'd expect it to stick... If so, the stickyness is in the throttle body.

Not very likely, but it's possible the stickyness is in the cable itself, or even the hinges of the pedal.

Followed the Honda service bulletin this weekend when I cleaned the throttle body. No luck getting the throttle body detached completely. Was able to remove the tubing from the air intake side just fine, but looks like the old TB gasket that is on there nowcreated a cement like hold (yes, I removed the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, and appropriate hoses). Wish I could get this baby off but looks like my gas pedal isno sticking on a cold start anymore. Thanks all!

Wonder if Costco gas and an occasional Chevron Techron fuel additive (every oil change) will keep this throttle body in working order?
