I am having the exact same problem with my 2010 accord ex-l 4cyl. whenever i engage the breaks at low speeds (around 40klms or below) i hear a ticking noise which i can also feel from the brake pedal. I have aftermarket 19' wheels on my car which add approximetly 7lbs per wheel, so i thought the extra added weight may have what caused the problem. but it wasnt. I went into Honda and the tech said it was the rotors had been warped and that replacing them would solve the problem. Now im just looking to find a good set of cross drilled slotted rotors and ceramic pads......any suggestions?

I got this brand new 2012 honda accord SE 4 cyl just last February of this year. It has 5k miles on it and then just a couple of weeks ago I started to hear knocking sound while braking sometimes once or twice especially right after I back up from parking. I started to make a research and good thing I found this thread online. I have not gone to my dealer yet. It is really frustrating to think that it is a 6 month old car and it is already experiencing this kind of problem.

The problem is still not resolved.

The dealer has done a lot of things but nothing has done the trick. Fixes undertaken include:

1 - Tightening / adjusting the upper control arm
2 - 'Adjusting' the axle nut (removing, cleaning, replacing)
3 - Changing steering rack
4 - Removing shocks, lubricating and reinstalling

I have escalled and had the dealer's 'Service Director' look at the car. I also had the District Parts & Service Manager come out, but we couldn't replicate the noise--it's intermittent.

Today the Service Director witnessed it first hand. They are going to get the car again next week and will look at both shocks and see what's going on. The previous tech tells me he placed a stethiscope on various parts of the car (under the hood) while someone drove the car slowly. That's supposedly how he narrowed it down to the shocks.

More to come.

Hi Lansing, thanks for the post. I just wonder why all the managers ignored the sound only appear when the weather is hot. Did they explain why that fault only happens in hot days. I hope you have the car fixed soon. Please keep updating. Luke

Default Still Thumping Update

Yesterday morning where I live (Wisconsin) the outside temp was in the mid-sixties...no noise from front end. By mid-day temp was in the 80's and our old friend "thumping/popping" was back. Wish I could put my finger on something definitive...I'm still of the opinion it is front disc brake pad mounting/assembly, and temperature related. Tech at Honda dealer that turned rotors and replaced pads once again said pads are wearing even and T.I.R. of rotors is within spec.

I only hear this sound at low speed such as manuvering in and out of garage, pulling away from stop signs, etc. etc. When I apply brakes at normal driving speeds all is quiet. From previous posts this appearts to be the case with the rest of you guys.

If it's not a case of the front pads bobbling around within caliper, or oddball expansion of parts and/or failure of lubricants due to heat just maybe it has something to due with brake pad material. Have to wonder if Honda may have changed pad material, vendor of parts, etc.

I believe this is too big and issue to just turn our heads on. Sooner or later this problem has to come to the attention of Honda America. Have to wonder how many other less tech savvy individuals are driving Accords and turning deaf ear to noise.

By trade, I am an engineer, well versed in mechanisms. For every ill effect (in this case, thumping/popping noise) there is a real cause.

If I can free-up some time next week I'm going to take my Accord to another Honda dealer that's been in business since day one...hoping just maybe they have some insight into problem or show willingness to resolve this issue through Honda America.

Default Just another thought

After reviewing posts to this thread one common element surfaces...in a majority of instances, we have all had front rotors on our Accords turned and pads replaced with factory Honda parts.

If the new pads are bobbling around enough to generate the noise we hear you have to wonder if another underlying cause may be due to the use of a "one size,ie one thickness" shim pack. In other words, no matter how much was machined from rotors (within legal limits of course) the shim pack provided with new shoes is supposed to work. If a set of rotors only requires light cut the reassembled clearances will be tighter than a set of rotors that were more agressively machined. You never hear a Honda tech say they had to use more or less thickness of shims.

Just a thought...I'd like to hear what others have to say.

Default Latest Fix - Here's what they did...

Dealer did some work yesterday. Took the car an EXTRA day to test. Time will tell, but here's what they did:

================================================== ==

Suspension Front
When the vehicle is warmed up there is a noise from the vehicle clicking type noise when making stops at slow speeds
Checked and road tested vehicle
Cleaned and inspected right and left strut towers.
Lubed, reinstalled. Checked all rubber bushings

================================================== =====

I am keeping my fingers crossed. Honda's are really great cars, but this one problem is a huge irritation.

Will keep you all updated.

Anyone else experiene something similar? What was the end result?

Thanks.

Default No Fix Yet :(

The verdict? No fix.

On the way to work today, the popping/creeking noise was there strong as every. I called American Honda's customer support line and asked them if they'd give the car the wrecking ball (in jest).

I wrote to the Service Director at the dealership and copied the District Parts & Service Manager.

The 'Director' of service at the dealer wants another crack at it... He says he will put his 'best tech' on it. I'm just wondering where his best tech has been over the last 2 -3 months, 7 or 8 visits.

Stay tuned.

Hi Lansing, I still think that there is something need to be done with the front brake system. I did a small test by my self is to pour cold water onto the brake the drive slowly and realised that that sounds stop for awhile till the rotors get hot again. I checked the rotor temperature and feel that honda ones are much hotter compare with my friend's toyota. I am not sure if that is the problem but to post this as my concern. I wish the best honda tech will fix your car properly your next visit.
