Was any work done on the car before you had this noise?
Properly support the front of the car with jackstand(s). Put the car in neutral, turn the tire, and listen for the noise. Pull the tire and spin the rotor and also listen for the noise. It could be a rock stuck behind the rotor and rubbing against the splash shield?

When you say the noise varies with acceleration/deceleration, is that while travelling in a straight line?
If its while turning maybe cv joint,
if its straight line I would have to concur with the above posts to examine the dust shield/caliper for any obstructions or foreign objects. I kid you not I've had a rock as big as my fist get stuck inside my rim and had it just keep knocking into my caliper and clicking as it was thrown around in there while I drove. Your description makes it sound more like an issue in a static location, akin to a card in bicycle spokes. When the rotors are safe to touch temperature wise, use your fingernail and check for any grooves or scratches across its face.
don't suppose the abs light is on is it?
Does it stop while applying the brake?
