Default Timing Belt replacement 2000 vtec 4 cylinder

At what mileage are people pushing their timing belt replacement too, before they brake? They recommend it being changed at 105K. My daughters 1995 model was just replaced at 110K, and the belt still looked brand new. I had someone else tell me they had 190K on their 1996 and it had never been changed. I know that how the car is driven is also a factor.
Thanks Lowell

due to the fact that honda's engines are interferance type motors if that belt brakes while the car is running there is a good chance you could bend a valve or put a hole in the piston and ruin your engine... That's why even if you think it's okay it's cheaper to do the belt at least every 100k miles than risk it.... also, when you do the belt you may as well do the seals, tensioner and water pump just to be safe...

I'm just a cautious person... I know that the owners manual calls for a longer period of time before changes, but I think they also say like 5-8k miles between oil changes too I don't recall... I should have clarified that. It's my belief that better safe than sorry, I'd rather do it every 100k and make sure I'm safe... So yes there is the correct answer vteck 2001 says that his manual calls for a change every 168k, however a number of people would suggest that you do it more frequently to be safe... Thanks Vteck2001 I didn't know that the 01's allowed for that much time... I'm kind of suprised actually!

people ,, one thing to keep in mind,,,,i have removed t-belts at 80-90 k miles and look like on their last thread.......Ity is better to be safe and pay 500-600 dollars today than a few thousands later on . ever hear of Pay me now or Pay me later ??
if people do mostly hwy driving the belt at 105k might look still in good shape, still i would not reccomend going any longer than that , you are on borrowed time
if mostly city driving i would reccomend replace t-belt at 80-90k miles

keep in mind that when you are sitting at stop lites or behind traffic .. the miles on the odometer will not go up but the t-belt still spins ..

Sorry guys. I meant 168 000 KM's not miles. Which is 104390.4 miles. So my dealership says it will cost $650 canadian to change it with the water pump. I think its time to change mine soon.

In the UK the recommended life of a tb is 130km. It should be replaced at the 81k ml service which costs about £350 (c. $550). I see that a lot of manufacturers are going to chain drive OHC, Chains should last for the life of th car if the oil is changed regularly.

130KM is 81.25K miles seems kinda low compared to US cars but then again they are higher HP than american I4 accords....

I just spent $1200.00 on mine, the seals went, and the timing belt I had replaced last year was reunied, dut to oil. My car is as good as new, it has almost 190,000 on it. I bought with a 163,000. My aunt on the other hand has a 99 c230 with a exteneded warranty, its been crap, its now waiting for a new transmission, if she had to pay for it it would be $6,000.
