It's per the manual - there is certainly not a tooth's worth of slack, nor a full 90 degree twist, so whatever the next step is would be very tight.
I'll drive it for a few days and check it out again, but based on everything said here I'm confident it's correct.
Thanks all! Just need to replace the PCV valve and fuel filter and put this project to bed.
