drop the trans and tell us what you see.
inspect the clutch disc, fork, and throw out bearing.
being your clutch may have been ran all the way down, your flywheel could be glazed from slippaged and will need to be resurfaced

If the clutch was worn out, the speedometer would NOT indicate.
This sounds like one or both axles have popped out of their sockets in the transmission.
Or (worse) the differential is broken. But I guess that would make nasty noises.

jim i thought that my self as well.
axle popping out was one of my original probable causes.
glad you found it. your mounts must really be messed up if your axles popped out.
our cv axles just pop into a socket and is held in place by the axle bolt on your wheels.
if your transmission is misaligned it will pop the inner cv joint out.
