Transmission Control Unit

Transmission Control Unit
I have a 1997 honda accord lx. The automatic transmission has (for the past 2 and a half years or so) been slipping during upshifts. It seems to rev alot higher than necessary before a small "kick" then it goes into gear. Sometimes taking my foot off the gas at the right RPM lets if shift correctly. Downshifts seems to register quickly.
I knew this was present went I bought the car cheap so I didnt really mind. I was just curious how the transmission has lasted this long without officially 'dying'.
Is it possible this is just some minor problem? Is it possible to pull error codes from the transmission control unit or would this trigger a check engine light just like any other sensor system? I have no engine light on now, I was just wondering if I should look into getting the tranny fixed for cheap.

RE: Transmission Control Unit
I think youll be alright. Just keep changiung tranny oil very often. Maybe there some Trans oil treatment out there that you could but that might help. Nad one more thing if you change tranny oil, and you see metal shavings.. welll then its only a matter a time.

RE: Transmission Control Unit
my 92 has a small shift problem as well, nothing else is wrong with it, I keep the fluid changed every 15k miles and its doing fine and Im pushing 200k on it. if you dont have any other issues and keep the maintenance on it then you should be fine.
