Default Transmission Problem

I have a '92 Honda Accord EX w/ auto trans. Recently it appears that the transmission stays in D4 at all times. By that, I mean it has little acceleration from a stop. As soon as you turn the key on, the box around D4 is lit up, as is the one around park. If you manually shift between gears, the little light box follows, but the one around D4 stays lit. Also, when you try to shift out of park, you do not have to apply the brake to get past the lock.
Any suggestions on where to start looking??
Thanks!
Jim

Welcome to the forum!

This may sound strange but do your brake lights work? There is a brake switch sensor that is activated when you depress the brake thus allowing you to shift. Is there any other lights on/anything else not working?

Turns out it was water induced from what i can tell. Sunday I had driven thru a major downpour. Once the car sat out in the hot sun all day, it started working normally. I guess i got water in a connector somewhere.
