Default Turn Signals must Warm Up?

Hey gang! Just picked up a '96 LX. Especially when cold, the turn signals must be on for tens of seconds before the lights actually start blinking. The relay clicks fairly fast during the "warm up" time, but the lights do not flash. Replaced the flasher relay with a new Honda part, and it still functions the same. The left side takes longer than the right, but they both take a while to work when cold. After you use them a while, they appear to work normally. I was thinking a loose ground wire somewhere, but any thoughts on what else it might be? The hazard switch blinks the lights immediately without problems, maybe the hazard circuit has a different ground? Is there some type of control unit involved other than the flasher relay? TIA.

Sounds like your low on blinker fluid.

HAHA, i read that on some other board and the person believed it, just wanted to see if it worked here. Maybe a blinker bulb has blown. Is it hyper blinking?

Blinker runs fast when the bulb is burned out. As far as the flasher relay is concerded, an open circuit anywhere still looks like a burned out bulb.

Look for loose connections, in both the hot wires and the grounds. Maybe corrosion in the bulb sockets?

The bulbs are all good, as I said they work fine once "warm", or when you use the hazard flasher button.
Guess I will see if I can find the appropriate grounding points and clean/tighten them. I bet they are way up under somewhere that makes it hard to get to! [:@]

we had a DVD player like that once. It wouldnt work for like the first 20 minutes after you put a DVD in, but after it "warmed up" it would work flawlessly.
My dad kept it for 2 years as our only DVD player, because it still worked. Just got a new one this christmas.

sorry to threadjack.

but anyway, i would have to say it sounds like the problem is some corrosion or ice forming in the light bulb sockets.

My guess is dirty/sticking switch contacts.

My 94 EX does this on cold mornings (Temp< 50F, that's cold in Houston). Right blinker will refuse to blink for perhaps 30 seconds and then will blink fine, even if blinker is off for some time. I removed and examined the blinker switch and could see nothing in wrong.

Blinker works fine for Left side and emergency flashers work fine.

Too easy to live with to get too excited.

Please post if you find a solution.

good luck
