Default Unusual 1993 Accord stalling issue

I have a very odd problem with my 1993 4 cyl. Accord that I believe to be fuel related. I would like some input from others before I begin the investigation…

The car has 145,000 miles as recently began to start hard when cold. Typically, it will crank over for 4-5 seconds before firing, idle at about 1500 rpm for 3-4 seconds then die. Crank again and it fires right up and idles fine. Idle smell is very rich. Recently, it has started to die while driving. It will die when decelerating at a stop sign or while making a turn. If I negotiate the turns and stops VERY slowly it will stay running but with even moderate aggression in turning or stopping, it dies suggesting that G-forces are starving it for fuel. At highway speeds, everything is fine.

Just before the problems began, I added about 10 gallons of gasoline I had drained from an old farm truck’s tank that had rusted. The gas was new, but I am assuming that there was a reasonable amount of sediment that made its way into the Honda fuel system even though it looked ok and was taken from the top of the tank. It might just be coincidence that this problem started around the same time…

Could this be as simple as a new fuel filter?

Thanks for any insight.

There's a fine mesh screen at the pump inlet inside the fuel tank, in addition to the fuel filter.

I'd change the fuel filter and clean off the pump-inlet screen first before considering other "repairs".

I think that there is a drain plug on the 93 fuel tank (#49) and a washer (#55) in the pic below. You may want to drain the tank.

I would definitely replace the washer.

You should be able to pick the washer up from the dealership. You do not want gas leaking out of the tank after you reinstall the bolt. The torque on the drain bolt when reinstalling is 36 ft-lb.
