I read Tony's thread on his 92 Accord 4cyl timing belt etc. I'm impressed with his job and documentation. I have a 99 Accord 4cyl AT with a weeping water pump. I assume this is an indication of a failing pump seal and therefore needing a full pump replacement. Is it necessary to do a timing belt, cam/balance/crank seals, etc just to replace a water pump? It looks like a big job. Is it any easier on my '99 vs Tony's '92? My car only has 65,000 miles. All original, never did the timing belt or even a valve adjustment on it. Just timely oil/filters/tranny fluid and basic maintenance. Are there any differences on the R&R on the 99 vs 92?

 

while you are there do it all...........this way you do not have to worry for at least another 70-80k miles ..

there is a slight difference 92 and 99 but very little.. for 1 the timing mark is on the lower timing belt cover, you need to align it with the ( white mark ) on the crank pulley and make sure cam is on the up position arrows straight with the head ( that's # 1 )

other than that it is pretty much the same

You got to remove the upper motor mount, valve cover , t-belt covers, the most problem you will have will be removing the crank bolt,, they are tight .. once the covers are out and you are on top dead # 1 ,, get a magic marker and mark the position of components .. it will be eaiser to reinstall

HONDA ACCORD 1990-1995 WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT
(DO NOT ATTEMP TO DO THIS IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO ADJUST
TIMING!!!) YOU WILL DESTROY YOUR ENGINE!!!(Must Have A Professional
Do this Part)
1. Jack up Driver Side of Car and remove Tire And Splash Shields
Located Behind Tire(its The flimsey black plastic thats all dirty)
2.Disconnect the Negative Battery Cable (Black)
3.Turn Engine to alighn the Timing Marks and set cylinder number 1
to TDC on the Compression Stroke.
Once in this position, the Engine must "NOT" be turned or
distributed.
4. drain engine coolant
5.Remove Timing Belt and Cover(round wheel belt fits on)
6.remove Bolts holding water pump in place;pay speciall attention to
the Locations of these bolts they are langer and shorter and must be
placed in proper order.
7.remove water pump and o-ring.
INSTALLING THE NEW PUMP
8.Replace o-ring and install water pump.
make certain the o-ring does not deform or move out of place,
Tighten mounting bolts to 9ft.Lbs.(12Nm)
on the Accord V-6 tighten the 8mm bolts to 16ft.Lbs. (22Nm)
and the 6mm Bolts to 9ft. Lbs. (12Nm)
9.Install the Timming belt Cover/Wheel and belt
10. Refil With Engine Coolant 50%Coolant then 50%Water
11.Reconnect Negative Battery Cable (Black)
12. Start Engine and allow it to Idle (about five minutes You will
hear the car sound like it is going to die and then speed up and
then die then speed up then it will Idle,(dont worry its normal)
Look for any Leekage under the Vehicle, And Listen for Any Belt
Slapping on the Covers,
Then Bleed And Flush The Coolant System Bottle of Flush is $10
bucks.
Turn Off The Engine , Reinstall Splash Shield And Tire And You Are
All Done!!!!! Happy Driving!!!!!!!!

First off Welcome to HAF,,,,,,,,,,Secondly thanks for the write up on water pump replacement ,,,,But at the same token you left a lot of information out,,, How to realign the timing and balancer belts, that is the most critical part ,, and there is no need to disconnect the battery at all , and as for # 12 ,, why do you ay that engine will speed up and die ?? once job is complited correctly , engine should idle real smooth ..
