Default What is necessary to change when i do timing belt on 2000 Accord V6 and where to buy?

Hi all,

Looking to do the timing belt change on my wifes 2000 accord soon. She is at 130k and i know its overdue. I was looking at the timing belt and its inexpensive but read that there are some other ittems that should be replaced along with it like water pump, tension etc. My question is what are the necessary items vs. unnecessary and is it better to buy a timing belt kit or buy the components individually? Also, where would be a good place online to get a timing belt kit? I'm currently looking at one through Rock auto that is $329 I believe.

Last question how much should labor run for timing belt, tensioner, water pump, and whatever else i might need to throw in there (non-dealership).

As always in input is greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to decide between this which is $324.50:

And This which is $229:

The only thing it looks like is missing from the cheaper one is some cam seals. That can't be a justification for and extra 100 bux though can it?

just called a local mechanic and they said it would be 393 labor (4.8 hours) to do the timing belt, tensioner, seals, and water pump. Does that sound reasonable for labor?

That is about $80 per hour of labor, so that is about what the dealership charges where I am located. Not sure where you are located.

It sounds like you got a quote from an independent shop that specializes in Hondas/foreign cars. You can get a quote from several local dealerships for parts+labor just to compare. The dealer will use honda parts, and I try to stick with OEM parts for stuff like the TB. There are sites that sell OEM Honda parts at lower prices compared to the dealership.
