Default what is this and why is it important?

help identify this part(sensor?), it's under the thermostat housing...I had a bad hose(from housing to eacv) and it's been dripping antifreeze on it. What is it, and why is it important to me? thanks!

That is Vehicle Speed Sensor and it is necessary for cruise control, and auto trans correct shifting. New sensors are readily available and inexpensive; ebay, amazon, etc.

good luck

ok, so if I'm not having a problem with any of those items, it'd be safe to say this sensor is ok?

thanks for the id, btw!

If you don't have CEL on or D4 light flashing, VSS is unlikely to be a problem.

good luck

I would say it was designed to resist water and oil. When you trade in your car, the car dealer will aggressively clean the engine compartment. If this caused problems, they wouldn't do it.

Not to mention what that part of the engine bay looks like when you drive through a rainstorm...
