Default What would be your repair priority?

I have a 97 accord ex, 4cyn and has 120+k miles. Interested in your recommendation of priority for repairs. Timing belt and water pump have never been changed. Coolant and hoses have never been changed. Trans fluid and filter have never been changed. And both axles have to be replaced because the CV boots are torn and the grease is piratically nonexistent.

Thanks

The timing belt should be done first. The water pump should be replaced when that is done, so the coolant will be changed when that job is done.

Tranny fluid would be next. Do not get the transmission power flushed! Most suggest using honda atf that you pick up from the dealership. Only 1/3 of the tranny fluid drains, so drain, refil, drive, repeat for a total of 3 times. That should exchange most of the fluid.

as for the cv's if they aren't clicking when you turn then I'd say just re-pack then full of grease and buy some replacement cv boots.

Definitely the timing belt job inclusive of the water pump. Start saving up....

i have to agree,, t-belt kit...............t-belt, balancer belt, h2o pump, seals, outer belts, and make sure to install a retainer in the balancer shaft seal,
after that i'd do the cv boots, if not replaced, axles will go noisy and it will cost you more money to replace axles than boots

My axles already click like hell when I turn. Do you think I can replace the boots and pack them with grease? Would it give like another year?

if they click they are toast........drive it as is till you get money to replace them ,do not waste money on new boots, too late ,, axles cost about 50-60 dollars .
there is a remote, very remote possibility that axle might brake if it is badly worn ,only seen that happen 3 times in many many years of working on cars

So I got my repairs done. I got the timing belt and axles replaced. For just under $1200, the following were replaced: timing belt, water pump, ac/alternator belt, power steering belt, all hoses including power steering hose and balance shaft belt (i think that's what it is called).

Thanks to all for the advice.

Default cost & suggestion for timing belt replacement?

What is the cost of timing belt and water pump at honda dealership?
Here dealter quotes 540$ . others charge $340-$380. Any suggestion on where to do this?

Labor rates vary A LOT depending on where you are. No good answer to that question. There's a lot of independant shops that do real good work. Some that don't. (Surprise?)

Palm Beach like your screen name? There's probably someone from around there that knows what shops are OK.
