whistling noise at 60mph - driver going crazy
Hi everyone - new honda accord owner and new to this forum but looking for some help. Recently I picked up a 2005 Honda Accord LX with 24k miles on.. great car and in amazing shape. The only problem that I have found is that around 60mph on the highway I hear a light whistling noise, its not too loud but is very irritating and not knowing where it comes from irritates me more. I've taped off the windshield, anywhere that could have air coming through making a noise and it still whistles. It only whistles when i accelerate and stops when i let off the gas... has anyone had similar problems or possible solutions for me to start looking into? I appreciate the help everyone... other than that, I love the car!

if you are saying that it is related to the motor spinning and not just the car moving then I would look at the air intake. Honda (and others) do a lot of work to make the air intake quiet and a broken peice or something stuck in it could cause your problem.

WheelbrokerAng - Nope, no CAI - also thank you for the welcoming
Its very quiet and sometimes impossible to hear on a load highway but 90% of the time you hear this whistling... I will check the air intake.. is that common for just making noise at a specific speed? what should I be looking for? any holes, etc?

Sorry about that. I just skipped over that part of the post.
If the noise goes away if you let off of the gas, then I would assume it is not from the wind. Your tires could be making the noise. I would rotate them and see if the noise changes or goes away.

PA Honda - No worries at all.. I appreciate the help.. it sounds like its coming from the engine area but my thought is exactly like yours. If its the wind it would be constant right? I guess the air intake could be doing it as well but its weird that it happens at 55-60mph and not prior.. Then again, I don't know much about whats going on in there ha

Hi bobbydigital, I have exactly the same problem in my car. The light whistling noise only happens at high speeds, usually on the freeway, and not while at lower speeds. Were you able to diagnose what the problem was? Did you take it to a mechanic, what did they say ?

bobbydigital and sudhanshugarg85...
Did you ever solve the problem? Our car (accord 07, 43k miles) has just started making that light noise at higher speeds. I think the sound is isolated towards the back right, but I'm not completely sure.
