Default wont turn over when warm

I have 3 Hondas that have nearly the exact same problem. My daughers 96, her boyfrinds 94, and now my brothers 92. (years not exact, but close, hope it doesnt matter) I have heard that it is some what common, but have not yet found a solution.

They will start, run, drive, shut off, then 1 out of 10 times, will not re-start when warmed up. Wait 5 to 20 min, then it usually starts.

No codes. Cap, rotor, plugs and such are new or close to it.
I can't imagin that it would be fuel because it always starts cold, just sometimes it won't even crank after its been run, like warm/hot.

Thank You for any help.

Get in the habit of listening for the fuel pump when you turn on.

- Turn off all noisemakers like blower, radio, etc.
- Key to ON - don't turn directly to START
- Fuelpump should run for 2 seconds then stop. It's a quiet whirring sound inside the fuel tank.

If you can convince yourself that it fails to start only when you DON'T hear the fuel pump, then check out your main relay. Search for "main relay" & you'll find stuff about it.

So, when you try to start the car the engine doesn't turn over? If so then there's something wrong with the starter or associated circuitry. A common problem is worn copper contacts, which would cause the starter to click but not turn:

Ah, wait a minute. I missed that part. Good catch Roader.

If the starter doesn't crank the engine over, then your problem has nothing to do with the main relay.

When it doesn't start, try the caveman test. Hit the starter with a broomstick while someone is trying to start. If that makes it work, then you need a new starter or fresh contacts in the starter.

Thank you Jim and Roader. I love the caveman test. I learned it from my dad years ago on an electric fuel pump, but I did'nt think about it here.
It looks like I need to go through and clean up as many contact points as I can get to.
I will let you know what I discover. Off to fix a caravan wipermotor.
Thank you for your time
