wrecked 92 accord.... need advice pls-honda.jpg

I have this 92 accord automatic with 137k on the clock. long story short, i rearended a semi. did quite a bit of damage, insurance totalled it but i kept the car and am in the process of putting it all back together.

at the scene of the wreck, i pushed it out of the road. but i had to stick the key in the little hole next to the shifter (the override thing) to get it to shift from park.

it pushed the condenser and rad back, the passenger headlite frame, but did not touch the block. i did start it, just for a second, and it started right up. but i am wondering, since i hit this guy going about 50, could the transmission be screwed up now? I have kept up the maintenance, including trans fluid changes. it seemed to shift hard (harder than my camry) before the accident....

what do you guys think?

Its possible that you damaged the tranny, but I would more likely suspect that something got bent, maybe shifter linkage out under the hood?

Whoa, you hit it going 50...? Are you alright dude? Did this car even have airbags? Sorry, I have no idea how you would go about inspecting the tranny in this situation. I just wanted to say you are impressive!

yes it had a drivers side airbag. that hit me in the face. my neck is a little messed up, but no bleeding or anything, and no broken glass. it did very well, considering.

another question i have is, there are two fans on the radiator. we are not replacing the condenser. so do i need both fans, or will one be enough?

i appreciate the advice.

I would say you would be alright 95% of the time with just one fan, but why take the risk. I'd go to a junk yard and get both. It won't be much more for both than for just one.

You hit the semi at 50, the insurance totaled the car, and you are trying to fix it up. A 92 accord in phenomenal condition can't be worth more than a couple of grand. This might be a time to move on to another vehicle...

definitely try and quote out the price for parts before tearing it apart, projects can be fun but it may be possible to just go buy a 92 accord off craigslist for the same price to fix or slightly more
