Cold Air Intake Question
Hi,
I got an AEm Cold Air Intake System for my Honda Accord 1993 Coupe. This change has made a considerable improvement and boost on my car's performance.
I was told by my mechanic that this cold air intake systems would work at its optimum level if it draws in cold air. If you have been using your car for sometime and the engine gets hot inside, chances are, your cold air intake won't be doing its job.
He further claims that, I should put an insulation to cover the entire aem cold air intake system to protect it from heat hence it will draw cold air all the time. Is this true or a misconception on his part?
Any reply would be appreciated. Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
Luke

RE: Cold Air Intake Question
Well if it's not sucking in cold air, then you will be losing HP. Cold air is more dense, thus your engine is essentially getting more air when it's cold then if the air was hot.
And he's right about the heat wrap. Although you may not notice a difference, theoretically, the cooler you can keep the air the more power you can make. Now will you even notice a difference with the wrap? I doubt it. As long as your cold air intake takes air outside the engine compartment, then you shouldn't worry too much about the engine bay heat.
I have seen one civic with a tiny hood scoop (or ram air) type deal that was placed right where his CAI was. I am looking for something like this for my accord. Has anybody seen anything like this?

RE: Cold Air Intake Question
the mechanic is so right...in a real world situation...the metal tube on your aem gets so hot that the air coming in gets extremely heated up making you loose horsepower....wrap that thing up and youll notice it
