Not really. All the exhaust system is is just a bunch of pipes to direct exhaust air flow. That's not something that affects reliability like a turbo or supercharger does. It may interfere with smog tests in some states though and depending on what kind of exhaust, may be illegal.

Meineke was asking for $250 to install my catback. Went straight to an old junkyard with loads of "muffler shops" and got it done for $100. You just have to look around, I'm sure you can get it done for even cheaper than $100. Or do it yourself (best).

It's simple if you know how and have the tools to deal with extremely rusted bolts. The seized bolts are the hardest part of the install. Otherwise, the parts fit right in.

As long as you buy a pre-made unit like the Magnaflow specifically designed for your vehicle, I would at least attempt to do it myself. Check the DIY section. I posted (sir_nasty posted my link) a link to a guy's website where he did how to's on a bunch of items for his 98 accord. One of them is installing a Greddy exhaust. You may want to buy a torch though to heat up the bolts to make removal easier. And buy new bolts cause you more than likely will break the old ones.

I got a magnaflow muffler with 2.25 in piping. Thing sounds great. As for exhaust, i've always been told that exhaust is good for the engine...but who knows.

Proper piping helps the engine. Too large hurts.

Turbo piping (3") on an NA car is bad, but 2.25" on a 4 or 6 and 2.5" on a 6-cyl won't hurt.

Streetcustons: Please add a proper signature and Home Depot has grades of bolts. Get the highest they have, talk to a worker for help.

I just got some custom exhaust work, I got magnaflow mufflers and had 2.25" ran from the third cat back to the new "Y" and 2.25" to each muffler...It sounds good, but I can tell I lost a bit of low-end torque....but it has made up for it by freeing the motor up in the high-end....
