exhaust cutout: gain or loss?

It feels faster in the the upper rpms because you have no restriction/maximum flow capacity. But in the lower rpms the flow velocity is low because of the lack of piping.
Your exhaust is similar to a garden hose. When the water runs through, it pours out at a slow velocity because the hosing diameter is big. But, when you put a finger of the hole, you notice the velocity of the water coming out has increased. With exhaust, big piping (or in your case, lack there of) creates power in the top end, but when your in the low rpm's the velocity is slow because of the lack of piping.
So yes, you're making power, but only in the top end.

I didnt want to make a new thread for my question.
Is there a way to tune a electric exhaust cut out to open ONLY when vtec engages?? Like run off the ecu somehow so it can have a nice back press. for low end and when she needs to scream the cut out opens. Iv seen the ones where you can flip a switch and it opens but I haven’t seen one that automatically opens at a set rpm or something. Is there a way?
*edit*
I’m more asking this question for tunable ecu (chipped/standalone) (for a h22) not running a ecu on stock air fuel ratio.

Sounds good. I'm thinking about running OE exhaust with a cutout for vtec...still debating tho. Should I use bigger pipe then stock even if I’m using the cutout? I want to run a full OE exhaust muffler and all for a sleeper and for long trips. Bwahhhhhhhhhhh! For more than a 1hr gets on my nerves.
Engine: h22 slightly built.
