new air filter on 91 accord
i out a new air filter i bought off ebay on my 91 accord and there are a bunch of electrical units and vacuum hoses with nothing to attach to. i figure the electrical stuff attached to the stock air filter had something to do with purifying the air it brought in. i just connected the vacuum hoses to themsevles and my car has been running fine. i was wondering if im harming my car in some way i dont know.
another question...my brother said you are supposed to oil your filter before putting it on. is this true? if so...how do you oil it. thanks

RE: new air filter on 91 accord
what kind of air filter is it? a stock or aftermarket filter?
if its an aftermarket like k and n then most likely its oiled, the oil spray u gotta buy it at ur local kragen or autozone or auto parts store, just ask for a oil recharging kit for an air filter.

RE: new air filter on 91 accord
jmcmichael08, I did the same thing for my 95 EX 4 cyl. The instructions were very generic and did not help with the install at all. I also disconnected and removed a black box that a duct from the stock intake hose plugged into. The box looked nice an all with a little plastic butterfly valve in and hoses and an electrical sensor but it was right where the new intake tube needed to be routed through. Out it went, left the electrical sensor plugged in and with the hoses that attached to it but the box went bye-bye. So far no problems or CEL. I did keep it though just in case...

RE: new air filter on 91 accord
it is an aftermarket filter but it didnt look oiled. ill run up to advanced auto parts to see what they have in the line of filter oil. as for the...umm...thing that was connected to the original air intake, i only got a new filter, not a cold air intake, so i just left it hooked up and ignored it. its been running fine so ill just keep ignoring it. thanks for your help
