Every location has different rules. From the state all the way down to the city level. Sometimes it's a set dcB limit, other locations it's left to the patrolmen's discretion, i.e. if he thinks it's too loud then it's too loud. Usually mist aftermarket systems are noticably loud, but not generally enough to warrant a ticket. If you are really unsure, you can contact your local DMV or Sheriff's ofice and ask them.

ok so my dilema is now this, i know its far to loud for an exhaust. what we did was we took the resonator off in the middle and just welded on a straight peice of pipe to fill in the gap.
so basically its a catback dual exhaust.
now since its hella loud...and i want to quite it down, can i put back on the resonator? and would you think that would help?
and im currently looking for silencers for these specific exhausts which possibly i may need to fab. some up real quick.
seriously when i accelerate there is so much reverberation from the exhaust it sorta hurts your ears haha.

I believe in most places, the limit is 95 dcB limit.

My rule of thumb is if the trucks can run dual straight pipes so can the Accord with mufflers. Just don't drive by cops at WOT and you'll be fine. Also, standard law is ~95dB @ 3000RPM something like 2ft. away at a 30 degree angle. Read it in Super Street once...

You should be able to ask the police if there is a specific db level you need to be under. In my small redneck home town there was a guy who had deafeningly loud straight pipes on his Dodge 2500. He had the db level measured so he was just under the tolerance so he never got a ticket.
