Real World Gains From Headers/CAI/Exhaust
I am brand new to import vehicles. My wife watches me modify vehicles all the time and she has hinted towards getting some stuff done to her car. She has a 2002 Honda Accord with a 3.0 V6 VTEC. It's a 4 door and an automatic. I am currently considering getting her some parts for her car this Christmas. I am coming to you guys for advice and information.
So, with that said, what are the real world gains of these modifications on a 3.0 VTEC Accord? I see vendors throwing numbers around and I dont have time before Christmasto sort the bull from the truth. In addition I refuse to spend crazy money to make minimal power [$1,000 for a catback]. I need to get parts that will help power or mileage, yet keep the vehicle reliable. Good bang for the buck mods. I was thinking of a ebay cold air kit and maybe some $150 stainless headers. Do thoseflex exhaust fittings go bad on ebayheaders? She doesnt want a loud exhaust although she might like having some nicer-than-stock exhaust tips [ I saw some stainless steel ones on ebay]. She wants the car to look close to stock, almost sleeper-ish.
So, am I wasting my time? Should I just get her girl stuff or could I bust out 15-20hp and maybe 1-2mpg with some headers and a cold air kit? Thoughts?

RE: Real World Gains From Headers/CAI/Exhaust
Well, the bolt-ons will help the throttle response and some with acceleration. Total peak dyno gains from IHE will only be around 15HP. IMO, after having my 6th gen V6 tranny cr@p out at 90k ..... 6th gen auto is not only not good for building, but you should sell it while the tranny still works. If you still want to build it up, I can help you with parts. Here's a detail on my last car.
