Default ECU Remap/Tune

Hi, I just got an aftermarket exhaust system on my LX V6 accord coupe (2002), ive heard that I would benefit by getting a ECU remap or new tune? I’m running off 89 octane, which has helped my gas mileage increase by about 2-3mpg, but anyways, does anyone know anything if there’s a remap kit available?

To be quite honest, any fuel economy increases by running 89 AKI fuel are pretty much in your head. The fact is, the higher the AKI, the lower the amount of potential energy in the fuel per unit. Your car is optimized for 87 AKI fuel; using any higher than that will result in zero improvement in fuel economy. As for any ECU changes, I do not believe they are possible on a Gen 6 Accord.

Gotcha, like my mechanic put in the PVP and Platinum Spark plugs when he did the 200k mile tuneup for the option of running that or 90 (ethanol free) because he believes ethanol is not good for the car, as it does not have flex fuel features. He has a 3rd gen (?, it’s a 1987) accord EX which he’s modded and tuned to get about 35-40mpg (however 1.8L I4 vs 3.0L V6 there’s gonna be some fuel economy differences)

Some of the worst automotive related advice I've ever heard has come from mechanics. The fact is, E10 fuel (i.e. 10% ethanol) does more good than harm to the fuel systems of pretty much every 1975 vintage and later automobile sold in the United States and Canada. The primary "benefit" of E10 fuel is the "drying" effect it has on the complete fuel system; the ethanol has a chemical latch which allows it to remove any trace water moisture; this in turn helps prevent internal fuel system corrosion and fuel system icing issues in the midst of a cold snap.

Shipo, not many people know that about moisture removal. I remember in the 80s my car's gas tank had condensated water in the bottom and when you did hard exceleration it would pop back thru the intake. I put in a bottle of isopropyl alcohol which absorbs the water, it cleared right up. Some marketed it as ice melt, or fuel dry. The side effect of new fuels is it takes care of the water build up naturally now.
