Default Gas Mileage and Breakin on new 2005

Hey guys. New import car owner, first time for me, spent my life with Mustangs. Anyway, I love my new Honda sedan, but I have a question about the gas mpg's.

My car only has about 850 miles on it and I have been averaging @ 24.5 mpg. I bought this car for gas mileage, how much more should it improve if at all.

Secondly, the gas tank is supposed to be 17.1 gal, however, the gas light comes on and when I fill it up it only takes 13.6 gal, and that is after putting on about 20-30 miles after the light comes on.

Please tell me that I will be getting about 400 miles to the tank, right now I get only 334 max, and I am hoping to be like others I know that are getting 400.

By the way it is a 4cly.

By the way, this seems like a nice forum for my car and information. Glad I found it.

Howdy Pete,

Your mileage will continue to improve until about 5K based on my experience with my '04. Sounds like the fuel warning light is a bit optimistic! Warranty time. I usually get upper 20's in city driving with AC on 100%. Mine is a stick shift though.

Hello all. I am new to this forum. I am the proud owner of a 2005 Accord EX (2.4L) w/o navigation or XM. I have about 800 New York City miles on my car and am averaging about 23 MPG. I get about 27+ MPG on the highway. I hope to have these number get better by 3-5 MPG over the next couple thousand of miles. Is that asking too much?

Hi:
I now own my 1st Honda, a 2006 Accord w/ 4cyl auto. I drive about 800 miles a week mostly freeway but since I live in Los Angeles the freeways are alot like city driving. I am getting about 29.5MPG average right now. I get approx 425+ on a tank. I noticed the fuel light also. The last time it came on I drove an additional 65 miles and it took 14.8 gals to fill up.

What more do you need? Your mileage will improve around 3500 miles and again @ 5000. Recently I made two trips to San Antonio (A/C off) and got 37.2 with no effort in spite of 40 minutes in (typical) Austin traffic never getting out of second gear. Best so far is 37.9.

RTexas: How did you hit 37MPG? The most I have been able to get is 31.5. I have 06 accord, 4cyl, auto & since it is winter am not using the A/C.
