Default Inexperienced 94 Accord owner needs a little help......please!

Hey everyone, I have a 1994 Honda Accord LX 4DR AUTO.. I bought the car off of CL (first mistake) and I have no idea what is wrong with it and i need some help. When I first bought the car, I had to replace the alternator as well as the serpentine belt due to high pitched squealing + whining. When I start the car up, especially if its chilly out, the car idles at 2, sometimes 2 and a half. I have no idea why it does this. Could it be the throttle? I will also need to get new brakes i think. Also, when I drive the car, the car shifts HARD...and again my car is AUTOMATIC! can that mean the tranny is going?? Any help will be GREAT! thank you!

You should try getting a transmission flush and putting Honda transmission fluid in there. It could just be that the fluid the previous owner used wasn't Honda ATF.

do you think that would stop the hard shifting seeing as its an AUTO? I dont want to get the T/F flushed if its going to f*** up my car.. lol not fix the problem. how much do tranny flushes usually cost?

I think when I had my transmission flushed it cost me about $160. It will help in an auto, it has a transmission that needs to be serviced just like a manual. I believe it should be done every 30k miles, but you should check your owner's manual. If you don't know the service history a transmission flush would be my very first order of business for hard shifting and maybe even throw in some additive for good measure.

Also, getting the T/F won't mess up anything unless you get it done improperly, so don't worry about that.
