KARR LX-1 security system
Hello,
This is my first car... I have 2007 EXL V4 which comes with Honda factory installed security system. The dealer has also installed KARR LX-1 security system which has only additional shock sensor (So, if someone will hit the car or break the glass the alarm will come up). The dealer has charged me additional $350 for this.
Couple of days back I called dealer and said that I do not want this KARR security system and they have agreed to de-active this and refund my money. But, before I go for that I would like to know:
Is it really useful to have this KARR security system which has only shock sensor as extra (rest all is already there with Honda security)?
Is the price $350 reasonable or they are charging too much?
Please suggest... Thanks.

I purchased a 2010 Honda Accord today. The dealer sold me a Karr Alarm System Series 3 for $375 bucks. He claimed the cost was $345 bucks. I have a feeling he ripped me off. Do i even need this alarm? I here this isnt even a real alarm system it just adds a few features to stuff that the honda already has. Can someone please help me out. I want to know if i should go yell at them in the morning.

I used to work at a Honda dealer and the Karr alarms were installed on every vehicle so that the salesperson can open each car without getting the keys.. In my opinion these Karr alarms are worthless as most new cars have some type of alarm or ignition interlock built in to the cars from the factory. The only thing the Karr alarm gives you that your car does not already have is a shock sensor that will set the factory alarm (horn) if someone breaks a window or trys to tow it.
I view this option the same as the $1,000 paint and fabric protection that dealers try to sell. These things are no more than a glorified car wax..
As far as I know, the cost is nowhere near $340 as the dealer is buying hundreds of these to put on every car.
As said it is a convenience feature for the dealers and they are hoping that the consumer will pay for them which in my experience most do.
These aftermarket items are a huge profit generator for most dealers. The dealer that I worked at charged $160 for a set of Honda wheel lock that you could purchase at the same dealers parts department for $50 retail.
