Default Merry Christmas from a Potential Accord Owner!!!!!!

Im Chris...Im 18 and for the past six months I have been a passenger....HOWEVER, I am ALOMOST ready to make my first car PURCHASE...My old car was a 89 Coupe DeVille that was my step moms and was sold the day b4 my graduation

THese are the three cars that I am looking at:

A NISSAN Maxima(most likely a 98-99)

A Honda Accord(anywhere from 96-)

An Acura TL(1st Gen)

I am kinda leaning toward the Max(cuzI want a 5spdV6)at the moment but I would like hear opinions from you guys on where my alliace might lie in the end...Also, im a pretty much broke college freshman, so im not looking to spend more than 6k on my car...Please send me your opinions...

I would suggest looking at a 5 spd 4cyl accord as well as a 5spd V6 Maxima. You may be surprised at the pep the 4cyl 5spd Accord has. I bought my 2000 5spd LX for $6k taxes and all. It had 104k miles on it when I bought it.
A buddy of mine had an autoMaximawhen I was in high school and that thing was pretty nice. Very good power and he had the Bose sound system which was nice too.
Ilooked for Maximas when I was buying my accord but I never was able to find a 5spd.

Hello, and look at the 4 cyl. accords- the 90's era of accord V6 engines kinda suck. Mine has ok power, top end speed unknown (110+) but there is little aftermarket "stuff" for the v6, and it doesn't feel sporty like the shifter accords. Also, the auto trannys have some issues in the used accords.

I would get a 2006-2008 accord. 4cyl is decent but if u want more power go for the v6 at or v6 6mt. I'm not saying this bc I am on this forum but because that maxima is a nissan and nissan lacks in the reliablility department as well as the dealers. My dad has told me all about nissans and I've also read reviews and complaints on edmunds. Don't get me wrong though. Some Nissan cars are fast and cool and all like the new Altima and GTR. Just if u get the maxima, don't expect it to be problem-free.

With a Honda all u have to do is change the oil and fluids when needed and that's all u will ever have to do. Unless u trash it which I hope u don't.
But whatever u want to get it. It's all up to u. Just my opinion...

Honda 4 banger is the way to go since you are a broke college freshman. The V6's that you can afford are either 5th or 6th gen and are not problem free. Also, I doubt that any TL is that cheap. If you want the cheapest car to own, go with a civic or 4 cyl accord. As for trannies, manual tends to have less problems for any manufacturer since there are less parts.
