my first Accord-- $450.00
Good morning everyone. I just thought I would tell a little about my car. I purchased my 98 Accord LX from a friend recently. It is a Cali car. She was the original owner. She had the original window sticker, owners manual, documentation for all repairs(done at the dealer) and even the valet key. The car has 181,6XX miles on it now and she had done all the scheduled maintenance as suggested by Honda.
Now for the story. The reason she parked it is it had an issue that would cause the car to die for no reason and she couldn't seem to get Honda to figure it out. She decided to get rid of of it. She had told me that she would sell it for 1500.00. I told her I was interested. When she finally was ready to get rid of the car (a year later)she had mentioned donating it(instead of selling it to me) for a tax right off. Eventually I talked her into selling it to me. She said she had researched the value on Kellys and valued it at 500.00. I didnt argue with her on the value. By the time I was able to talk her into letting me buy it ,the battery was junk. She paid for half the price of the battery.
In about ten minutes I had played around with ignition and figured out that it was a switch issue. The local Honda dealer had the car on multiple occasions and couldn't figure it out. They kept telling her that there wasn't any codes stored. I am a big fan of Forums, so I joined this forum and found that there was a safety recall on the mechanical and electrical components of the ign. switch. I took it to a different Honda dealer and got it fixed for free.
Sorry for the long story just thought it was kinda funny how the dealer overlooked the simple thing that wouldnt show up on their code reader. Sometimes understanding mechanical and electrical things goes along way. Not just having a piece of paper that says I went to a technical school for motor vehicles. Know what I mean?
Now I have a great second car and my son has decided he wants one now.
