New 2002 Honda Accord
Howdy,
I just bought a used Honda Accord a few days ago. It's actually the first Honda I've ever owned and I have a few questions.
1. I wanted a manual car, but ended up with an automatic. I noticed it has kind of an "semi-automatic" shifting. Where you use the 1,2,D3,D4 to manipulate gears. I tried it and I generally prefer it to just driving automatic. Is there anything I should know when operating it? Just so I don't damage the transmission.
2. Also, I just noticed a small fresh scratch on my passenger door. It looks like someone scratched it with their car door.. or maybe a shopping cart. [:@] Is there any quick fix to this?
Thanks

RE: New 2002 Honda Accord
hey welcome to the forum.....when you drive you should should just keep it in D....i have heard some unsubstatiated reports that changing the gear manually is bad for your auto....not sure if its true though. for that scratch....most people just put a little touch up paint on it and you really wont be able to notice it...its really a shame though...so many people now are LEASING and such with their cars so they are keeping them for such a short period of time that they just dont care about them....they dont care if they get dented or if they dent someone elses car up. they will just slam their door into your car with out one care..

I used to shift like that in my old caravan and the company truck at this one dumb job... Never hurt anything while I was there. I still don't recomend it though. Once in a while isn't bad if you're going to use it to engine brake, but other than that let the auto do its thing.
Plus, that's nothing like driving a stick; stick is way more fun than that!

Not recommend by my Honda Mechanic either, he says it's bad for the trans also...

hmm ok.
That's disappointing that it's so not recommended. It seems like it accelerates a lot faster when using the different transmission modes.
Thanks guys
