Default new here

Hello I'm new here, I stumbled upon the site while searching Google for an answer to my question.
I have a 95 honda accord lx 4 cylinder that I love but it's got a problem.
The gas gauge is broken, the odometer doesn't function and the speedo doesn't work right.
To make a long story short I have eliminated wiring and sensors and narrowed it down to the gauges.
I found a great deal on Craigslist for a cluster, but it's a v6 automatic cluster. I'm not worried about the PRND321 lights, but I don't know if the v6 cluster will plug into the 4 cylinder.
Will it work?

EDIT: I was looking at the part numbers for the combination meter on a number of websites, they have different part numbers.
78110-SV1-A01 appears to be for all manuals.
78110-SV1-A11 appears to be for all automatics.
Of course the sites all say 78110-SV1-A11 doesn't fit the LX manual.
I guess I'll hit the scrapyard tomorrow and hope they have a manual cluster.

Welcome to HAF

I think, memory, the issue you will have with the V6 will be the tach.

Thanks poorman, I decided against the v6 cluster.
I'm going to go to upap before the wife goes to work, I'll try to find a 4 cylinder cluster. I have also heard that the 97-99 cluster is a direct swap. Maybe I'll find one of those.

Common problem with these clusters. Usually just the soldering on the back of the gauges has gone bad. If you don't care about the mileage shown then finding one at the pick and pull should be pretty easy and save you some time on the repair.

So much for the junkyard today, that place was packed, and I don't have all day. I was wondering, how hard would it be to repair?
I have used a heat gun to reflow my xbox when it red ringed, would something like that work here?

Welcome to the forum, Hondacar 1212

Since you have some experience with wiring, etc... working on a cluster that is already not functioning properly can't hurt.. and you very well may resolve the issue. Wishing you success

Thanks man, that was my thought exactly. I pulled the cluster, disassembled it and removed the speedo and figured since the odometer is frozen I'll bench test it. By moving the tripometer backwards the odometer rolls backwards too, however the tripometer rolls forward only .4 miles and when the odo tries to roll to 144700 it freezes both odometers. I'm guessing that this is why the odo doesn't work. Why does it seize at rollover?
This isn't the first time it froze trying to rollover.
I didn't go to crazy with the heat gun since the speedo works, just inaccurately.

Off to the gas gauge, I was told by a honda tech (close friend) that it's most likely a wire between the motor and gauge itself, that's next up.

Edit: I found the broken wire

If I were to be lazy, could I just wrap a piece of speaker wire around both points, or should I try and solder it?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It goes without saying that it is your car, so obviously the final decision is yours alone. What line of action do you feel would be best?

Adding a 'wrapped' wire could prove to only be a temporary fix... and possibly lead to other issues down the road

If only temporary worked haha, it didn't work at all but that's ok, I'll replace the gauge. I'm terrible with soldering, it will probably be more stress free anyways.

The speedo still feels off, I also noticed that when the key is on the speedo moves slightly.

Just slightly, probably need a new one of those too.

On the bright side I put led back lights in, they look really nice

Sorry about the photos, my phone takes them any direction it wants and if I try to flip them, they become .png files and cannot be uploaded.
I will find some gauges and let you all know how it goes.

Thanks.
I picked up a cluster from an auto yesterday, as far as I can tell, everything works.

A little sad that I don't actually have a magical bottomless gas tank though haha.
