Default Oil Additive

Good morning,

I have a 2010 Accord Coupe 4 cylinder, with about 315k miles. I recently noticed a leak. Due to the miles on the car, I do not want to spend a lot of money to fix it, so I was considering using an oil additive. Is that something I should do, and if so, what kind should I use? I currently run synthetic oil, and I change it when the indicator gets to 20%.

Thank you!
Michele

Oil additives are generally a waste of money. In your shoes I'd run a "High Mileage" synthetic oil, they have special additives to coax seals to swell a bit to help oil leakage control. Beyond that I'd simply keep the oil topped off; oil is cheap. I assume with the kind of mileage you're putting on your car, which is nearly twice the mileage I have on my 2006, you're shooting for maybe 400,000 before you retire it.

You could also track down the leak. Who knows, it might be something simple to fix.
Clean the area good, then watch for the highest elevation point that gets wet from new oil leaking out.

I already use Mobile One for high mileage vehicles. I noticed I was burning a little oil, but now I see it on my driveway, so I need to do something to stop the leak - without expensive repairs.
Thank you!
