Shift lever is stuck in park
2008 Honda Accord Coupe--Park in Costco and started the car but the shift lever was stuck in park. I googled Utube.and was able to get to the lock release. From there I was able to shift to the other drives and get home.I check the fuses in the engine compartment and driver side. I read to check fuses #10, 17, and 5. Can someone tell me what fuse boxes that the fuses in question are located..I guess I could check all the fuses.
There are two switches that could be defective but not sure how to test them with pulling them out. One is the brake pedal position switch located on the driver's side above the brake pedal. The other component is the shift interlock solenoid. Which one of these components is more likely to fail.
It appears that this is a common failure on Hondas and other cars too. Appreciate any advice to get this fixed. Right now I have my trusty screwdriver to unlock the shift lever.

The switch at the brake pedal is the easy one to check - look up towards the hinge point of the pedal. It's the same switch as the brake lights, but probably 2 different circuits at 2 different pedal-positions. Sometimes it's a flaky switch, sometimes the little button the presses against the switch falls apart, just have a look.
