I have a mechanic friend who says I'm running too long, but I have never had any wear-related engine issues using this method, in over 150k miles. Any other suggestions for extended performance oil? My Honda has been dealer serviced until I had oil changed to semi-synthetic at Jiffy Lube before I left for home last week. 57k on her now.
LOL, no, you are not running too long, if anything, you're throwing away good oil. In many cases mechanics are the worst source for automotive related advice.

Are you putting an extended filter on with running it 10k. Some people do extended runs but still put cheap filters on.

I myself run my oil until 8500 on regular 5w20 full syn since the break in period and do not have an issue (they say I can run another 1k but I'm good where I'm at). I get my oil analyzed once a year to make sure the engine is running pristine. Currently I'm at 190k with not one issue.

Thanks Seanjordan. Yes, I have been installing a Mobil 1 extended performance oil filter with every oil change on my other/previous cars. I plan to run 5k with the Jiffylube semi-synthetic and then switch to Mobil 1.

At what RPM does the VTEC kick in on the 06 Accord 3.0L and is it very noticable? I haven't run it over 5k yet and not full throttle.

Ran it up past 5k today, heavy throttle, felt exhaust note change and there was quite a kick after that. Did I make the VTEC club?

Activated the VTEC again today passing a car. When it hits, about 4,800-5,000 RPM, sounds like a different engine (or exhaust), and you sure feel that sudden boost!
