What i have found so far is the ECU has found an engine fault. It could just be a faulty sensor or i need to get the code checked to determine which system is in need of repair. I wonder are there any honest mechanics in Sydney.....highly unlikely.

Welcome!
Most parts stores around here can only read OBD-2 cars, which means 1996 & newer. Look in the General Tech or DIY sections for instructions on earlier cars. You can read them by watching the flashing light & counting the flashes. Earliest ones have a flashing LED on the computer itself. Later ones flash the yellow check-engine lamp. They switched over right about 1990 or 91 or so.
