cant offer too much insight as rotary engines arent really my thing.

i would join a rx7 forum, or just a mazda in general forum

sure ..... the piston moves in a rotary motion rather than a reciprocating one ...... look it up for more info.

The piston is a rounded triangle shape moving in a figure 8 shaped cylinder.

there arent pistons, its more of a triangular rotor that spins around in a chamber. i believe the rx7 has 3 rotors and chambers although i'm not sure as i've never been that big of a fan. they are also known as the wankel engine as wankel invented it. i'm sure there is a wikipedia article with pictures and such.

I'm almost positive that the RX-7's had engines with either 1 or 2 rotors. Mazda did make a 4 rotor version that did very well in racing .... I'm not sure what kind though ..... it's all covered in Wikipedia

rx 8 and rx 7 have 2 rotors and the mazda 787B has 4 it won many championships but was dq'ed for some stupid reason, like the motor didnt meet someing i forget
