Fourth generation (1990–1993) VS Sixth generation (1998–2002)
I have a 93 10th ann in good confition, im looking to invest about a 1000 to get it to the next level OR i can sell my 93 and for about $4000 get a 98/99
My question is, mechanically which generation is more sound, which one lasts more? pros and cons etc
I'm curious which car people would prefer from these two generations and why. Thanks for any advise and insight...
Currently examining a 93 vs 99. both in good condition with about 150k miles.
Please dont just go with the 99 for it being newer, im looking for the one that won't give me headaches....

Hiya matey,
I have a 1999 model, when I open up the bonnet, all I can see is the sensors and wires! things are great when they work, but if something is wrong, I wouldn't know where to start, take it to someone who can plug in the computer (I am an old fashioned dude )
to me this car has got its pros and cons: Great to drive, efficient, comfy, good power, not too bad with mpg considering
cons: lots of wires under the bonnet, too much electronics for me!
hope this helps, only my view fella

I have a 92 accord. with this one you don't have to hook a computer up to it to find out what the car computer says is wrong. granted your still talking about a 20 year old car so it's still going to have it's problems. me personally, i would stick with the 4th gen over "moving up". i know the newer ones have more problems with their transmissions (not sure if you would be getting an auto trans or not) just knowing that is enough to scare me away. with the 4th gen (if it's treated right) is usually the tcu not the trans itself which is cheaper then replacing the trans. hope this helps. good luck with your decision.

My niece just traded in her 1998 Accord on a 2006 Accord. Her 1998 was a problem due to chronic transmission failures, as well as electrical isssues under the dash. She spent thousands on it trying to keep it on the road. Personally, I prefer to keep my 1993 LX as it has not shown any major issues, even with 228,000 miles.

I really can't say enough good things about my 1993 LX...No oil leaks, no electrical issues, runs strong and drives nicely. I paid $1800 for it 6 months ago, it was well maintained with all receipts to show service history. I really think the 4th gen Accord is one of the most reliable, and would be a good choice.

I have a 93 accord, but i have been doing some repairs totaling about ..700 and i started to think maybe it was time to buy a newer accord, perhaps a 1999 accord. but I think im going to hang on to mine for now..I love that I can fix it myself. I would not want a car full of computers that when something goes wrong i'll need to connect it to a computer for a diagnosis, and it sounds like accords 98 and newer are pretty much like that...
