Default Afraid of the airbags?

So I've been reading about the spate of 2008 Accords with defective airbags. Either people hit small potholes and the airbags went off (which is arguably by design) or by people who were driving at 30mph, no bumps nothing hit and the airbags went off for no reason or the people who shut the door and the airbags went off. The worst part was Honda not stepping up to the plate for no reason deployments.

It kind of bugs me that a pothole could trigger an airbag. Sometimes it's inevitable, we can't see potholes all the time so I'm doomed knowing I'll eventually hit one and be out >$3500 and possibly my life. I've hit potholes in my 95 Accord and no airbag was deployed so I don't understand why they had to change that. It makes the car seem really fragile.

I'm extremely paranoid that the airbags will go off in my 2009 Accord. It's gotten to the point where every bump on the road causes me to expect the airbags to deploy and in NY we have treacherous roads marked with holes everywhere and raised sewer caps. On the way home from work I cross a bridge where the separation between the bridge plates regularly launches the car into the air at least half a foot before it takes us straight to an exit that is literally covered in craters for at least 20 feet straight. Right down the street from my house is a pothole in the shape of a line as wide as the street. The pothole is about 1/4foot deep and the car tire literally falls into it. How could the sensor not detect the rapid deceleration as a crash?

So how do you guys drive? Over what kind of terrain? I know my fear is kind of irrational but it's hard to ignore and I kind of wish I knew this before I bought the car. If I knew what you guys drove over without having the bags deploy it might make me feel a little better.

That's the 1st time I think I have seen a post such as this. I will have to follow it up to see if others have had any problems like this.

I never heard of this either, even on other Honda forums. I own a 2009 Accord and it is not a concern.

When you look on line for evidence of trouble on any product you will find it. My advice: balance your search for evidence of strengths in the product as well. Honda is very reputable; I doubt it would ignore a significant safety issue. I have experienced the roads in your area and if your airbags haven't deployed by now, they are probably waiting for a real impact.

I dont bother,i wont be able to notice it before its to late anyway
Just like going around being afraid of getting struck by lightning
If it goes it goes!
By the way i m new here and if Honda cant build a car no one can! i had four other Hondas before and never got any problems or defects, not a single one!!!! My new is a 2009 (europe)and i love it so much i rather sell my house before i sell the car! Its a Executive diesel with everything i need in it!
Brakepads have to be serviced from time to time with lube but i dont consider that a defect.A well built carwith small tolerances must be greased up sometimes! Even a Rolex likes som good grease sometimes

Yeah I've pretty much gotten over it. It was a totally irrational fear. Since that last post I've driven over so many brutal bumps I've lost count.
