Autodimming mirror with exterior temperature
Hello guys, I did not know where to post this so I am posting it here, sorry for any inconvenience I might have caused to the order of threads.
I decided to keep my 2012 Accord SE, and as you know stupid Honda does not put exterior temperature gauge on the SE model (and I forgot 2 check when buying the car because I thought every car on the planet has one already) , so I went ahead and paid almost 400 bucks and bought a Gentex autodimming mirror with outside temperature indicator. I also paid 2 hours of labor to the dealership and had it installed.
Now the mirror is showing the temperature but when it is parked for a long time, the temperature reading is off by 8-9 degrees Celsius. It only starts showing a sensible number after you drive it for like 5 minutes. I have been reading reviews of this type of mirror and everybody says the temp gauge is very accurate , so I am thinking this could be a bad installation? I am pretty sure dealership did a crappy job since the wire going to the mirror is not covered by wire cover (apparently they have lost the wire cover) but I am also sure if I go back and complain about the temperature readings they will blame the mirror manufacturer and won't accept any responsibility regarding the installation.
What do you guys think is the reason this stupid thing is reading off temps and what should I do?

Where is the sensor actually located? It's very typical for the sensor to pick up engine heat when you park the car, and then read OK after you drive it. Unless there's air blowing over the sensor (from the car's motion) you're always gonna have that.

Jims right on that statement, my Lincoln Town Car even does what he typed in that statement above..

Would like some advice on installing a Gentex I have on order in my new 2012 Accord coupe. I'm a pretty good weekend mechanic. I can fix anything I can get at. Where is the stock sensor located? I had the same trouble as noted above when I put one in my GTO. Engine heat all but made it useless until driving steady for a few minutes.
Also want to install some stock or stock looking fog lights. Any advice would be welcomed.

Well, I installed my rearview homelink/temp mirror today after searching threads and YouTube videos. The airbag pillar seems to be the biggest headache because you have to replace the upper clip after you pound the pillar off. I got mine off Ebay, so no replacement clip. I decided to figure out a way to do the job without removing the pillar and to my surprise it was a piece of cake.
I have a'12 LX-S. Once I fished the harness inside the head liner and got to the pillar, I was able to simply press each wire into the slot between the plastic pillar and the head liner. I routed the wires toward the door jam continuing to press them in[not much effort at all] and pulled off the weatherstrip, which comes off easily and goes back on just as easily. Once the weatherstrip is off there is a gap between the door frame and the pillar. It was simple to put them inside the pillar down to the left side of the dash and then underneath the weatherstrip. I didn't even have to remove the outside dash panel. At the bottom of that panel I brought the wires inside right at the top of the kick plate near the fuse box.
I drilled a hole in the firewall about 6 inches to the left of the brake assembly to fish the temp wires through.
You'll need the camlock adapter for this car, probably all Hondas, so don't forget to get one if it's not included in the package. Amazon has them for about 20.00. I have an extra one that I will sell for 10.00 bucks. I ordered one before I found out that my mirror came with one.
I found that #2 fuse is empty[for memory seats] but hot to ignition, so I bought a 7.5 amp fuse and soldered a pigtail to one of the tangs after drilling off the plastic, making sure to put the fuse in properly to take advantage of the fuse.
I used a pair of latex gloves to avoid soiling the fabric and the job looks perfect.
